DS Darlings

SAMMY____________________________________________

Please meet our sparkling, smart, delightful Sammy! Sammy is a very bright little nine-year-old boy at our Believe in Me Jinjiang School, who is also on the shared list. Many of us who know and love Sammy are thrilled to think that there is a family somewhere who will be blessed to have him as a member. This dear boy is as clever as can be and has such a bright future ahead of him. He is speaking, singing, dancing, running, beginning to memorize and read, and is working hard to learn and grow in school. His kind heart and very funny sense of humor endear him to everyone. There is not a person who has met Sammy who doesn’t walk away forever changed about the way they think of someone with Down Syndrome. He is one of those children for whom the word “charm” was coined…and we mean charm in the best sense of that word. He is engaging, delightful, sweet, thoughtful, and filled with a goodness that draws people to him. Add to that a very capable and able mind, and there you have our Sammy!  In class at school, Sammy is attentive and diligent in his work. One of the most social little guys in school, he is sure to participate in all of the activities, especially if it involves playing with his friends. He loves to play and is making much progress in learning through the play-based teaching that his teacher uses. He can label colors, shapes, and counts up to 10. This amazing, high-functioning boy soaks up every minute of learning when he is in school. The staff is amazed with how smart he is, and we are sure that he is teaching them as much as they are teaching him. There are no limits to this silly boy’s potential.
Sammy charms our socks off. We can’t wait to hear about how he will charm some lucky family waiting just for him!

JENNIE_______________________________________________

Sweet, beautiful Jennie is 8 years old and is featured with WACAP, with a grant.  Please, please read about this precious child!
ID: Jennie SP.FZ.0803.32305.0
This child is a part of the Special Focus Program.
Jennie was found in 2003 at a few months of age. She’s quite small for her age. She is able to walk around inside of her crib and to pull herself up to standing. The orphanage where she lives has fed her mostly a diet of milk but no solid foods. She is diagnosed with Down syndrome. Her caregivers report that she isn’t able to talk, but we noted that she could sit well on her own. A volunteer doctor at the orphanage noted that she has a simian crease in one hand and that the back of her head is flat, she has astigmatism, may have failure to thrive and her tongue is a little big. The doctor also observed that she has a heart murmur (Gr iii diamond systolic murmur but S1 and S2 are normal). What Jennie needs most of all is a family who can help her reach her full potential and get her the medical attention that she needs.
This child is listed with WACAP through a special partnership project with his/her orphanage. At this time, his/her file is not eligible to be transferred to a different agency.
There is a $4,200 Promise Child grant for eligible families for this adoption. Please contact a waiting child case manager atckids@wacap.org for more information.

JIMMY____________________________________________

Jimmy is 4 years old and SO cute!  I think he maybe "Julian" from LWB but am not certain.  Here is what is written about this precious child from Reece's Rainbow:
China
From a missionary who visited with him in May 2010:  " Jimmy is a delightful three year old with Down Syndrome.  He is decribed as being quiet and playful.  Jimmy doesn’t walk by himself yet, but he can get anywhere he needs by holding onto furniture and walls.  He only says a few words, but understands so much more. Jimmy has a close relationship with his foster father.  When foster dad hugs him and raises him up, he laughs happily.  Jimmy also loves the outdoors.  When foster mom takes him to pick up his older foster brother from school, he raises his head in his stroller, looks at the sky, and laughs heartily.  He is curious about everything. "
Update in July 2011:  Jimmy, now four years old, has been on the shared list for a long time … At the time his file was submitted, he didn’t even walk yet! Now he runs. When the file was prepared, he didn’t speak at all. He’s still a man of few words, but he does call those in his foster family by name …  If his family doesn’t find him soon, they may move him out of his foster home to make room for another child who they feel may have a better chance at a family."

Meredith is a GORGEOUS little girl with dark skin, dark silky hair, and giant brown eyes.  She is already 4 and has waited so long for a family of her own.  Meredith is HEALTHY, with no medical complications.
Recent update (April 2011):  Meredith is doing very well and is a content child. She recognizes her name when it is called. She smiles often when her caregivers speak to her. She recognizes the staff. She likes to play with toys. She can pronounce a few words. She is not a picky eater. She is a wonderful little girl with Down Syndrome waiting for her family. A recent report also shows that she has mild CP.   She can walk but she cannot run.
